A breathtaking pastel rainbow of red, white, and yellow sandstone awaits at the Coyote Buttes. The area, set aside in 1984 as part of the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, is full of some of the strangest rock creations in America. Home to the spectacular twists and curves of the internationally known formation “The Wave” and more, the Paria Canyon Coyote Buttes is one of the most spectacular places on Earth.
A permit is required at least one day in advance for hiking in the Coyote Buttes, and cost $7 per person per day for the north side and $5 for the south. Permits can be obtained at the Paria Ranger Station, the BLM Kanab Field Office, or online. Groups are limited to six people. There are many hiking trails with various levels of difficulty, and two campgrounds. The park is open for hiking year-round, but availability is limited.
