Whether it's a visit to Sycamore Canyon, Kendrick Mountain or Kanab Creek, visitors will not be disappointed with the natural pleasures that await in the Kaibab National Forest. Bordering both the North Rim and South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Kaibab is one of the largest ponderosa pine forests in America. It provides beautiful scenery year-round, with lush green trees in spring and summer, vibrant autumn colors, and breathtaking snow-capped evergreens in winter.
The North Kaibab Ranger District was part of the lands included in the Grand Canyon Forest Reserve in 1893. President Theodore Roosevelt created the Grand Canyon Game Preserve, which included a large portion of the current National Forest. In 1908, the Forest Reserve north of the Grand Canyon was renamed Kaibab National Forest, and in 1934 the Tusayan National Forest south of Grand Canyon was added in.
A variety of outdoor activities are available in the Forest year-round, such as sightseeing, hiking trails, wildlife viewing, camping, and fishing. There are also historical archeological sights you can visit. The City of Williams/Forest Service Visitor Center is open every day year-round, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the summer, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the winter. The Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center is open every day year-round from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
