Located on high elevation plateaus in southwest Utah, the Dixie National Forest offers some of the most spectacular and diverse scenery in Utah. This diversity provides several camping experiences. The red rock country in nearby National Parks meets high alpine forests, creating a rich scenic encounter. Dixie National Forest is the largest forest in Utah, covering nearly 2 million acres and stretching for 170 miles across southern Utah.
There are quite a few campgrounds and picnic sites on the Forest. Most large-group areas are available by reservation only. Several campgrounds are located near lakes and reservoirs and have boating or fishing opportunities. Many trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and ATV or motorcycle riding are also available. About half of the campgrounds are open year-round, and about 1/3 of them from May to October. Picnic areas and other day-activity sites can be used from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
