This trail was created by Indians and later utilized as a rugged cattle route by Mormon pioneers. It offers modern hikers a ready means to climb the Vermilion Cliffs from the Kanab Creek Ranchos neighborhood.
The first 0.5 miles is an easy walk, meandering along a broad canyon floor. Then the trail rapidly ascends nearly 800 feet to a saddle. From the trailhead to the saddle and back is about 3 miles.
East of the saddle 0.5 miles is a point that overlooks the city of Kanab and across Kanab Canyon to the Vermilion Cliffs. West of the saddle a trail threads its way up to a higher ridge. On top you’ll find a broad mesa of sagebrush and pinion-juniper forest, as well as an expanded view.
