Recreation Areas : Hog Canyon

Hog Canyon

In 1998 David DeVooght and a few environmentally concerned citizens of Kane County started the Canyon Country 4x4 Club. Their main concern was to protect, preserve and enjoy this gorgeous area while enjoying their favorite past-time of four wheeling. In 2002, they approached the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with the idea of the Hog Canyon Trail System and brought to the attention of BLM managers the damage that was occurring in the area. In 2005 the Hog Canyon Trail System was placed on the Federal Register as an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail System.

Thanks to cooperation from Utah Parks and Recreation, Kanab BLM, and the Canyon Country 4x4 Club, the area was mapped and signed. Club members built an informational kiosk and, together with the trail signs, visitors are informed as to the difficulty and rating of each trail. Just recently picnic tables were assembled and placed at different points of interest for everyone to enjoy. Twice a year the Canyon Country 4x4 Club hosts special events on the Hog Canyon Trail System which are enjoyed by members and visitors from all over the state.

Hog Canyon is a beautiful area and can be enjoyed by hikers, bikers, and equestrians, as well as ATVers and four wheelers.Kanab is very lucky to have such a beautiful place for our visitors and locals to enjoy.

Hog Canyon is located just 1.5 miles north of Kanab.  Kanab has all the accommodations needed to make your visit to the area a memorable one.
